DETAILS

Join Micro-Forest creator Maya Dutta to learn about this unique method for reforestation using micro-forest design that was created by Japanese botanist Dr. Akira Miyawaki in the 1980's and how they can build communal and climate resilience. FYI...Aspetuck Land Trust has just completed our first series of Miyawaki Forests in Bridgeport, but our work was inspired by the first micro-forest in the northeast, spearheaded by Maya in the City of Cambridge MA in 2021. As she says these are "Tiny Forests with a Big Impact"! Maya Dutta is an environmental advocate and ecosystem restorer working to spread understanding on the key role of biodiversity. She works on the Miyawaki Forest program, project management, research, outreach, education, and advocacy efforts at Biodiversity for a Livable Climate. Having grown up in New York City and lived in cities all her life, Maya is interested in creating more natural infrastructure, biodiversity, and access to nature and ecological connection in urban areas. She is a member of the SUGi forest maker network, and has worked within Bio4Climate to plant four Miyawaki Forests in Greater Boston.
